A change of opponent means that Lando Vannata will now be fighting Bobby Green instead of Abel Trujillo at UFC 216 in Las Vegas on October 7th.
At this stage it’s not know why Trujillo was pulled from the card, but the good news is that not only have they been able to find a solid replacement for him, but both men also still have plenty of time to prepare for the upcoming fight.
Green comes into this fight in dire need of a victory, having suffered a trio of losses in the Octagon that stretches back over a three-year period.
It all began with a unanimous decision loss to Edson Barboza back in 2014 that ended a four-fight winning streak in the Octagon.
After that Green was sidelined for a couple of years, and upon his return in 2016 he was promptly KO’d by Dustin Porier in the first round, and followed that up by dropping a split decision to Rashid Magomedov this past April.
As for ‘Groovy’ Vannata, even in defeat he made an immediate impression in his UFC debut last year when he gave one of the lightweight division’s top contenders Tony Ferguson a torrid time before eventually succumbing to a d’arce choke submission loss.
Vannata then went on to record a stunning highlight-reel wheel kick KO against John Makdessi at UFC 206 in December, but then suffered a ‘Fight Of The Night’ decision loss to David Teymur earlier this year.
Green Vs Vannata joins a UFC 216 card that’s still without a main event, though a heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Cain Velasquez has been rumored for that spot.
