An intriguing lightweight encounter between former champion Anthony Pettis and Dustin Poirier is expected to headline UFC Fight Night 120 according to ‘Showtime’s’ coach, Duke Roufus.
Pettis recently returned to 155lbs after a short stint at featherweight that saw him fight Max Holloway for the interim 145lb title, but that bid to claim his second UFC title ended in a TKO defeat.
‘Showtime’ has since got back to winning ways after returning to lightweight, notching up a uanimous decision victory over Jim Miller at UFC 213 last month.
Meanwhile, Porieir had an extended run at featherweight earlier in his career that ended when he suffered a TKO loss to Conor McGregor in 2014, but since then he’s carved out a solid run in the lightweight ranks, compiling a 5-1 (+1nc) record.
He also holds a win over Jim Miller earlier this year, but his last fight with former champion Eddie Alvarez ended in a no-contest ruling after his opponent was deemed to have landed illegal knees.
Though it’s not been officially confirmed yet, Pettis Vs Poirier would headline a UFC Fight Night 120 card that will also feature a welterweight fight between Matt Brown and Diego Sanchez and middleweight action as Nate Marquardt fights Cezar Ferreira.
