Floyd Mayweather has claimed that Conor McGregor isn’t going to be able to make weight for their fight this coming weekend in Las Vegas and has warned the UFC superstar that if that’s the case then he’s going to receive a heavy fine.
““Conor McGregor is extremely heavy right now,” Mayweather told the FightHype site. “I think he’s 164, so he’s still got 10 pounds to go. I mean ya’ll get that extra money if you can’t make the weight. Get them extra millions ready, Dana!
“Or the UFC, get them extra millions ready, um, or somebody gotta pay a fine. But he gotta get that weight down. A true champion, you know, like I said before, a true champion is disciplined and very responsible. But, you know, we’ll see.
“…I don’t think he’s gonna make the weight. Even if he do make the weight, that’s even better. But if he don’t make the weight, we still gonna fight but it’s gonna be a heavy fine, I’ma get me that money!”
A 10lb cut doesn’t seem like that big of a deal for McGregor. After all, he’s been used to cutting down to 145lbs during his run at featherweight in the past, and while that did take a toll on him, he has no such issues cutting down to lightweight in the UFC, so something would have to have gone horribly wrong if he doesn’t comfortably hit the scale at 154lbs in a few days time.
As for Mayweather, he should have no concerns as he typically fights south of 154lbs, and indeed he’s already been filmed eating burgers this week, most likely in attempt to continue the mental warfare with his rival during fight week.
