Saturday night’s Mayweather Vs McGregor prelims aired live on FOX to an average of 2,438,000 viewers.
The two-hour broadcast featured two fights, with Juan Heraldez’s unanimous decision win over Jose Miguel Borrego registering 2,360,000 viewers, while a victory on the scorecards for Yordenis Ugas against Thomas Dulorme peaked as high as 3,110,000 viewers.
Compared to other boxing fights on the channel this year, the broadcast was averaging over a million viewers higher, giving a clear indication of the level of interest that there was in the eventual main event on pay-per-view between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.
Meanwhile, FOX’s pre-fight show also pulled in an impressive 1,463,000 viewers, while the post-fight offering on FOX Sports 1 did 368,000 viewers.
Interestingly, the weigh-ins for the event only garnered 287,000 viewers – a solid amount, but only registering as the third most viewed weigh-in on the channel, although the difference here was that various other channels and digital media platforms were also covering them at the same time.
So, overall the ratings were strong, though the one that really matters is the pay-per-view tally, and according to UFC President Dana White it’s very impressive indeed as he claimed last night that the early estimate puts it in the region of 6.5 million pay-per-view buys – which would make it by far and away the biggest PPV of all-time.
