Sijari Eubanks has been removed from her TUF 26 Finale headlining fight for the inaugural women’s flyweight title after failing to make weight for the event.
Eubanks was taken to hospital after a botched attempt to make the 125lb flyweight limit for the biggest fight of her career left her suffering from kidney failure, and as such was pulled from the card by UFC officials.
Eubanks loss is Roxanne Modafferi’s gain as she’s now been handed the title shot against Nicco Montano after previously having been scheduled to fight Barb Honchak elsewhere on the TUF 26 Finale main card.
Modafferi, a 34-fight MMA veteran, had made it to the semi-finals of the show before losing to the aforementioned Eubanks by unanimous decision.
Prior to that Modafferi had been fighting frequently for the Invicta FC promotion, producing a 5-2 record that included an unsuccessful title shot in their 125lb division.
As for Montano, she shocked Barb Honchak in the semi-finals to book her title shot and will now be looking to upset another veteran tonight udespite only having a 3-2 pro-record.
