Francis Ngannou will not have to wait long for his chance to fight heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic as the title fight has just been booked for UFC 220 on January 20th in Boston.
Ngannou is only days removed from the biggest win of his career at UFC 218, which saw him virtually remove Alistair Overeem’s head from his shoulders with a thunderous knockout blow.
That was the 31-year-old Ngannou’s sixth win since joining the UFC two years ago and leaves him with an overall 11-1 record, making him one of the most exciting rising stars to emerge at heavyweight in years.
Now he’ll face his toughest test against the division’s current champion, with Miocic having been in unstoppable form over the past few years during a five-fight winning streak that’s seen him run through the likes of Junior dos Santos, Overeem, Fabricio Werdum, Andrei Arlovski and Mark Hunt – all of whom he finished by strikes.
With Miocic Vs Ngannou on-board, UFC 220 is now shaping up nicely with two title fights on-board as a light-heavyweight championship encounter between Daniel Cormier and Volkan Oezdemir also features on the first pay-per-view card of 2018.
