A middleweight encounter between Yoel Romero and David Branch has been booked for UFC On FOX 28 on February 24th in Orlando, Florida.
The 40-year-old Romero is coming off a failed attempt to win the interim 185lb title against Robert Whittaker back at UFC 213 in July, losing out by way of unanimous decision.
Prior to that Romero had been on an eight-fight winning streak in the UFC, defeating a string of high-profile contenders like Chris Weidman, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, Lyoto Machida and Tim Kennedy, and so even factoring in his last defeat the Cuban ‘Soldier Of God’ still maintains the No.1 contender spot in the division.
With that in mind it’s a little surprising to see him drawn up against the 35-year-old Branch, who is currently No.10 in the division after having submitted to punches against Luke Rockhold in September.
In fairness to him though, not so long ago Branch held both World Series Of Fighting’s middleweight and light-heavyweight titles simultaneously, and did notch up a win over Krzysztof Jotko in his return to the Octagon earlier in 2017.
Romero Vs Branch will slot into the four-fight main card at UFC On FOX 28, while other fights confirmed for the event include Jessica Andrade Vs Tecia Torres and Alan Jouban Vs Ben Saunders.
