Bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw campaigned hard to set-up a superfight with Demetrious Johnson, but so far its not materialized and he’s now claiming that the UFC themselves told him that ‘Mighty Mouse’ fears the possibility of facing him.
“As far as I was told, UFC said they wanted it,” Dillashaw said on The MMA Hour show. “They keep telling me Demetrious Johnson was too scared to accept the fight. He might say differently, I don’t really know. When it comes down to it, I am not going to continue to push hard for something that is not going to happen. I can’t wait around forever to get paid.”
For his part, Johnson had explained earlier this year that he was willing to fight Dillashaw, but only if they were to fight on a stacked card that would ensure that they both would be paid handsomely for the showdown.
Negotiations appear to have stalled though and for the time being Dillashaw is moving on from the fight and has instead been booked up for an immediate rematch with his biggest rival, Cody Garbrandt, who he defeated by TKO in the second round at UFC 217 in November of last year to win back the belt.
Now they are set to do it all over again at UFC 227 on August 4th in Los Angeles.
