Following last night’s UFC 225 event in Chicago the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main event middleweight clash between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero.
Both fighters were badly rocked at times during the hard-hitting 25-minute encounter, but even so they kept on swinging regardless and put on a show for the fans, before Whittaker just edged out his rival to claim a split decision victory.
To cap it all off, since Romero didn’t make weight for the bout he was ineligible for the $50,000 bonus and so Whittaker gets it instead, meaning he pockets an extra $100,000 in total.
Charles Oliveira earned one of two ‘Performance Of The night’ awards for a swift submission finish against veteran campaigner Clay Guida, taking just 2.18mins to tap him out with a rear-naked choke.
On the headlining fight on the preliminary card, Curtis Blaydes claimed the other bonus award after he controlled Alistair Overeem on the mat for the best part of three rounds and then began dropping down massive elbow strikes on top to leave ‘The Reem’ suddenly covered in blood and the referee having to rush in to save him from further punishment for a major TKO victory.
