Valentina Shevchenko Vs Liz Carmouche May Headline UFC On ESPN 4

Fresh over a stunning head kick knockout victory over Jessica Eye this past weekend, flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko may now move on to a UFC On ESP4 headlining title fight with Liz Carmouche in San Antonio, Texas on July 20th.

That’s the word according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, who says it’s a fight that’s currently being discussed by the UFC brass for the show.

If so it would be a repeat of a 2010 bantamweight fight between the pair in the C3 promotion, which Carmouche won due to a second round doctor’s stoppage.

Nowadays, Shevchenko is the dominant force in the flyweight division, having racked up three wins in a row over Priscila Cachoeira, Joanna Jedrzeczjyk and Jessica Eye since dropping down to the newly formed weight class last year.

As for Carmouche, she too saw an opportunity to make her mark at 125lbs, but initially lost to Alexis Davis by split division in her divisional debut.

However, she’s since rebounded with decision wins over Jennifer Maia and Lucie Pudilova, and despite being a rank behind Katlyn Chookagian in the rankings, that’s enough to get the former bantamweight title contender a chance to fight Shevchenko for the flyweight belt.

Shevchenko Vs Carmouche would join a UFC On ESPN 4 card that will also feature a number of heavyweight fights as Greg Hardy takes on Juan Adams, Andrei Arlovski goes up against Ben Rothwell and Aleksei Oleinik fights Walt Harris.
