Grant Dawson had to survive some early submission attempts from Darrick Minner tonight at UFC Fight Night 169 before going on to finish his opponent with a submission of his own.
Round One:
Leg kick for Minner to start. Another hard leg kick for Minner and it takes Dawson off his feet. Minner looking for a guillotine choke now, but Dawson scrambles to get out of that and ends up on top.
Dawson in his opponent’s guard and Minner is looking for an armbar. Nothing doing this early in the fight though and Dawson continues to work on top.
Minner adjusts and works for another armbar. It doesn’t payoff, but he’s able to get back to his feet and then tries to bring Dawson doing working a guillotine choke.
It doesn’t pay off, but as Dawson stands back up he drops down with it again. Dawson trying to roll out of this and Minner is still cranking on it, but eventually has to let go and that leaves Dawson on top.
Dawson in half guard and for a second gets out to side control, but then Minner gets him back to half guard.
Again Dawson tries to pass and this time he gets to mount and starts looking to land big shots. Minner rolls to his knees with Dawson landing big punches looking for a finish. He transitions to a rear-naked choke and it looks tight but there’s only a few seconds left and Minner survives.
Round Two:
High kick apiece land to the arms. Dawson pressing his opponent up against the cage and Minner goes for a guillotine choke and drops down with it.
Dawson escapes though and is now working to full mount and then takes his back. He gets the body triangle in and is now working on the rear-naked choke and it forces a quick tapout from Minner at 1.38mins of the second round!
