The UFC is in talks to put on a rematch between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz according to Dana White, with the ‘BMF’ belt once again being on the line.
Masvidal previously fought Diaz in November of last year and handily defeated him by TKO due to a doctor’s stoppage at the end of the third round.
However, Diaz was unhappy with the stoppage and it seems that ‘Gamebred’ is now offering him a second chance to go up against him and prove who the better man is.
“(Masvidal) wants to defend it against Diaz,” White told reporters following last night’s Contender Series 31 show in Las Vegas. “They were the first two to fight for it. You know what I mean? They were the guys that fought for it. He wants to put it up versus Nate again.”
According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, all parties are believed to be interested in the bout, with a pay-per-view headlining spot in January being the most likely landing spot for the bout.
One man who is less than thrilled with the news is Leon Edwards, who is currently ranked No.3 in the division and has been calling out for a fight with his rival Masvidal, but has now been left fuming at having been overlooked in favor of a much lower ranked opponent.
“Could have fought number 3, yet chose to fight number 12,” Edwards said on Twitter. “Eventually this (expletive) will fight me, I’m all for money fights but watching two journeymen go at it again when it wasn’t even competitive is a joke. And this is the ‘BMF.”
