Tony Ferguson is set to fight Charles Oliveira at UFC 256 on December 12th in Las Vegas.
The booking is good news for both fighters, with Ferguson having previously stated that he’d like to fight again before the end of the year, while Oliveira had been voicing his frustration that he wasn’t being given more high profile fights.
Former interim 155lb champ Ferguson’s last came against Justin Gaethje at UFC 249 in May and saw his 12-fight winning streak finally come to an end via TKO in the fifth round.
That was a major disappointment for ‘El Cucuy’, who had been set for a long awaited title shot against Khabib Nurmagomedov at that stage, only for the champion to have withdrawn from the bout due to Covid-19 restrictions, which led to Gaethje stepping in instead.
As for Oliveira, he has been compiling an impressive 7-fight unbeaten stretch of his own, defeating the likes of Clay Guida, Jim Miller, Nik Lentz and most recently Kevin Lee to rise up to No.6 on the lightweight rankings.
Ferguson vs. Oliveira joins a UFC 256 card that will potentially be headlined by a bantamweight title fight featuring Petr Yan vs. Aljamain Sterling, while Junior dos Santos vs. Cyril Gane is also scheduled for the main card.
