Jose Aldo vs. The UFC Lightweight Champion
Jose Aldo has dominated the UFC Featherweight division since its inception in 2011, and had dominated the WEC Featherweight division before that.
There have been many calls, rumours and speculation of Aldo moving up to the Lightweight division for a couple of years now, and by the way things are looking, 2015 looks to be the perfect year for that to happen.
While there is a lot of hype behind fellow featherweight Conor McGregor, he is the only interesting fight left for Aldo (provided the Irishman beats Dennis Siver next month) in the division, since he has beaten all of its other top fighters.
Should a McGregor vs. Aldo title match take place, and should Aldo win, it would be a perfect time for the 28-year-old to move up and challenge himself against the top fighters at 155.
It would also be a good opportunity for the UFC to see its first true ‘Superfight’ in years.
With wins over Benson Henderson and Gilbert Melendez, Anthony Pettis has shown himself to be a great champion in the Lightweight division.
However, he also faces a number of great challenges in the division through the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Rafael dos Anjos.
Aldo’s name may also be on this list should he win his next fight or two at Featherweight.
With few fighters left to challenge in the Featherweight division, a fight with the UFC Lightweight champion, whether it be Pettis, Nurmagomedov or anyone else, may be on the cards sometime in 2015.
