The Mixed Martial Arts calender gets firing on all cylinders as we step into May with a number of high profile UFC and Strikeforce shows leading the charge.

Saturday, May 5th: UFC On FOX 3

May’s big fight action kicks off in style on the first weekend of the month with the UFC’s third event on FOX which should guarantee that it’s watched by millions of fans.

The emphasis on this card isn’t neccessarily on star power so much as entertaining fighters and good matchmaking as is shown with the main event which pits lightweight top contenders Nate Diaz and Jim Miller against each other.

Josh Koscheck Vs Johny Hendericks will also be an interesting tussle, while Rousimar Palhares Vs Alan Belcher could turn out to be a cracking middleweight contest.

Friday, May 11th: Bellator 68

As always there’s Bellator action every Friday night during May, but we’ll single one out for special attention here and that’s Bellator 68 on May 11th.

The event will feature the featherweight tournament final between Marlon Sandro and Daniel Straus, while there’s also a rematch between Marius Zaromskis and Waachiim Spritwolf on the main card alongside the likes of Marcos Galvao and Seth Petruzelli.

Tuesday, May 15th: UFC On Fuel TV 3

Tuesday isn’t a day you’d normally associate with the UFC, but that’s when the ‘UFC On Fuel TV 3’ event is set to go down so we’re not complaining.

Always entertaining featherweight contenders ‘The Korean Zombie’ and Dustin Poirier headline this one, while Jeremy Stephens Vs Donald Cerrone is a match-up that’s also likely to be in the hunt for ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors in Virginia.

Saturday, May 19th: Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix Final

Well over a year after it first began the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix finally comes to a conclusion in the middle of May.

Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier will battle it out to be the tournament champion, but that’s not the only big fight on the card with a lightweight title fight / rubber match between Gilbert Melendez and Josh Thomson featuring in the co-main event slot of this one.

Saturday, May 26th: UFC 146: Dos Santos Vs Mir

UFC 146 is the biggest event of May in more ways than one given that it features an all-heavyweight main card.

After a long period of uncertainty we now know that Junior Dos Santos will defend his heavyweight title against Frank Mir in the main event, and with other match-ups including Cain Velasquez Vs Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva and Roy Nelson Vs Gabriel Gonzaga there’ll be plenty of firepower on display in Las Vegas to end the month with a bang.
