UFC 148: Fight Card

UFC 148, which goes down this coming Saturday night, July 7th, looks set to be the promotion’s biggest selling event of the summer and boasts a six-fight main card.

Of course the real draw here is the main event, a rematch between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and his biggest rival Chael Sonnen which UFC president Dana White has declared is the biggest fight of the year.

It certainly seems to have come along at the right time as tensions between the two are at an all-time high, and with Sonnen having proved in their last encounter that he can back up his words with actions, every MMA fan now wants to see whether he does have Silva’s number, or if the champion will emerge victorious and continue his unparalleled unbeaten run.

The co-main event will see us bear witness to the last fight of one of the UFC’s all-time greats Tito Ortiz, who’ll be inducted into the ‘UFC Hall Of Fame’ on Friday, as he looks to go out on a high with a victory over Forrest Griffin to complete their trilogy of fights.

Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le returns to action looking for his first win in the UFC against Patrick Cote who’s worked his way back into the promotion after a successful 4-0 stint elsewhere in the past year.

UFC 149 also finds Demian Maia making his welterweight debut and he’s been served up a tough first fight against Dong Hyun Kim.

Former featherweight No.1 contender Chad Mendes will look to make his first steps back towards a title shot when he faces guillotine submission expert Cody McKenzie.

Finally on the main card we have a battle between Ivan Menjivar and Mike Easton as they look for a win that would install them at the business end of the bantamweight division.
