Alexa Grasso claimed her third win in a row tonight at UFC On ESPN 33 with a first round submission win over Joanne Wood.

Round One:

Wiid pressing forward immediately but is met with a quick flurry from Grasso. In close they trade strikes and wood stumbles, enabling Grasso to secure an early takedown.

Grasso in Wood’s guard now. Light punches to the head from Wood off her back and even a few elbows. Grasso opts to stand back up now.

Short flurry of punches from Grasso. Wood works a combination now. Punches and a knee to the body from Wood.

Head kick attempt from Wood. Low kick lands as Grasso works punches upstairs. One-two for Wood. Jab lands. Push kick from Wood. She tries a spinning elbow, but Grasso is able to work a takedown off that and takes the back.

Grasso immediately working for a rear-naked choke and sinks it in. Wood tries desperately to peel it off, but can’t do it and has to tap out, handing Grasso a big submission win at 3.57mins of the opening round.

An important win for Grasso then that could put her in the title picture at flyweight, while Calderwood has now lost four of her last five fights, including three by submission in the first round.
