Former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will take on the in-form featherweight Max Holloway in an exciting addition to the UFC 206 card in Ontario, Canada on December 10th.
Pettis opted to move down to 145lbs earlier this year after a disappointing three fight losing streak at lightweight, and he notched up a third round submission victory in his featherweight debut against Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira at UFC On FOX 21 in August.
Now the 29 year-old ‘Showtime’ will go up against the man many people believe has already done enough to earn a title shot in the weight class, Holloway.
‘Blessed’ has compiled a stellar nine-fight winning streak inside the Octagon since a 2013 decision loss to Conor McGregor.
Along the way he’s defeated the likes of Cub Swanson, Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens and Ricardo Lamas, leaving the 24 year-old ranked at No.3 in the division behind current interim champion Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar.
Given both men’s striking prowess this should be a hugely entertaining match-up and it’ll have major title implications too.
Pettis Vs Holloway adds some much needed depth to the UFC 206 line-up, which is currently set to be headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson, but doesn’t look as if it’s going to feature Canadian superstar Georges St-Pierre after talks with the UFC about his long-awaited comeback stalled.
