Bellator 114 Results

Alexander Shlemenko successfully defended his middleweight title for the third time last night in the main event of Bellator 114 against Brennan Ward.

Ward posed him problems on the mat in the early stages of the fight, but was then caught out as he looked for a takedown in the second round, with Shlemenko managing to sink in a guillotine choke to produce the tap while Ward was clutching onto a single leg.

The featherweight tournament semi-final fights didn’t produce too much in the way of excitement on the night, with Daniel Weichel and Desmond Green eventually booking their place in the final with unanimous decision victories.

There was far more entertainment to be had in the main card opener, a middleweight tournament semi-final between Brett Cooper and Kendall Grove.

The first round belonged to Grove as he showed off superior ground skills.  They chose to stand in the second though and while it looked competitive it was ultimately a bad choice for Grove who got caught with a right uppercut from Cooper who then shuffled back just a little and uncorked a right hook that toppled his opponent to the canvas.

Big ground and pound followed from Cooper to seal the deal on a TKO victory.
