Bellator 139 took place last night in Kansas and we’ve got all the results for you below.
In the heavyweight main event Cheick Kongo comfortably made his way to a clean sweep on the scorecards against Alexander Volkov. It wasn’t the most exciting fight to watch though, with Kongo playing it safe, opting to using takedowns and top control to shut down his opponent.
The co-main event ended in controversy after David Rickels got off to a strong start, hurting John Alessio and then teeing off on him against the cage. Alessio wilted and sunk to one knee on the mat with the ref hovering close by on the verge of ending the contest.
Then Rickels made a huge error of judgement, throwing a illegal knee to the head of his downed opponent, and with Alessio declaring he was unfit to continue as a result of the strike that led to a no-contest ruling. A costly maistake for Rickels who really was right on the verge of victory and just got caught up in the heat of the moment.
Earlier Hisaki Kato claimed a brutal one-punch KO finish against Joe Schilling, making the kickboxer pay for having his hands down as he caught him by surprise with a superman punch early in the second round that felled him like a tree.
Meanwhile, in the main card opener Pat Curran got back to winning ways with a solid unanimous decision victory over late replacement Emmanuel Sanchez.
