Ben Askren has not been shy in calling out high profile fighters in the UFC since joining it’s welterweight division recently, and despite currently having a fight with Robbie Lawler lined up, the former Bellator and ONE FC champion currently has outspoken star Colby Covington firmly in his sights.
“I want to fight Colby,” Askren said in a video posted on Instagram. “Nobody likes Colby. Literally nobody. Listen, not just like in the fake world in Twitter, social media, because social media and Twitter…that’s kind of like…kind of a fake universe. It’s not really reality, right? But in the real world, nobody likes Colby.
He doesn’t have friends. I don’t even know if his mom likes him. Nobody likes this guy. Me included, I want to beat him up. Simple as that.
asren then turned around and asked a passer-by, “Hey do you like Colby?”
“Covington?” the man responded.
“Yeah,” Askren confirmed.
“Nah, that guy’s a dick,” the passer-by responded.
“See!” Askren laughed. “Told you guys, nobody likes him, nobody likes him.”
It’s quite possible the two will meet in the Octagon at some stage, especially if this trash-talking continues, but for now Askren fights Lawler, while Covington is expected to go up against current 170lb champion Tyron Woodley on an as yet uncomfirmed UFC card next year.
