A fight between woman’s bantamweight contenders Bethe Correia and Jessica Eye is being targeted for UFC 203 in Cleveland on September 10th according to the Combate site.
Correia is best known for her 34 second KO loss to Ronda Rousey last year in Brazil, which broke the unbeaten 9-0 start to her MMA career.
After that, the 32 year-old took some time out, before returning to fight Raquel Pennington at UFC On FOX 19 in April, which resulted in another defeat by split decision and leaves her just outside the top 10 rankings at 135lbs heading into this fight.
Currently occupying the No.10 spot on that list is Eye, who’s inclusion on this card makes a lot of sense given that she hails from Cleveland.
The 29 year-old will no doubt be hoping that hometown advantage can spur her on to a much needed victory, as she only has a solitary win over Alexis Davis to show for her six fights in the UFC to date, although she did also beat Sarah Kaufman in her debut, before the result was amended to a ‘no contest’ ruling due to Eye testing positive for marijuana.
Correia Vs Eye joins a UFC 203 card that will be fronted by two major heavyweight fights, with new champion Stipe Miocic set to make his first defense against Alistair Overeem, while former champ Fabricio Werdum takes on Ben Rothwell.
