Bethe Correia Vs Marion Reneau Declared A Draw At UFC Fight Night 106

Bethe Correia and Marion Reneau fought to a majority draw tonight at UFC Fight Night 106 in Brazil after Reneau came close to stopping her opponent in the final round.

Round One:

Reneau starts with a couple of kicks, but Correia catches one and counters with punches.

Back to the kicks for Reneau though as Correia looks to counter punch. Correia working the jab here, then lands a leg kick.

Head kick attempt from Reneau. Now she steps into a hard body kick. Soon after she does the same thing again. Correia clinches up and forces Reneau to the cage.

Reneau pushes away and lands a knee to the body, but Correia presses her back to the fence. Soon after they break apart though and get back to the center of the Octagon.

It’s not long before Corriea again works into the clinch though and goes right back to the cage. Reneau looking for knees to the midsection when the opportunity presents itself.

Not much happening for Correia here and Reneau is able to create space and get away again.

Punch from Reneau misses and Correia counters with a leg kick. Again Correia counters as reneau comes in again. Exchange in close and Correia lands a left hook.

Now it’s Reneau’s turn to land with a couple of punches to the head. Correia switches things up and lands a nice trip takedown to end the round on top.

Round Two:

Jab lands for both fighters to start the secound round. Reneau misses with a push kick to the face and Correia opts to clinch against the cage.

Reneau works free and they exchange punches in the center of the Octagon. Left hook lands for Correia. Now an overhand right that was little clumsy, but did land.

Reneau reaching for a takedown, but finds only fresh air. Correia with a nice hook. Now another strike lands hard. She’s starting to find her range now. She lands to the head again and Reneau won’t want to take too many of those.

Correia has definitely found her rhythm now and she’s starting to mix in some punches to the body as well now. Correia ducks under a punch and clinches, but Reneau escapes.

Uppercut lands for Reneau. Correia nicely times a takedown off a knee. Correia working in her opponent’s guard here, but not doing a whole lot on top, while Reneau tries to land a few strikes from her back.

Reneau tries for a triangle choke, but Correia breaks free from that and stays on top. She lands a few more blows, while Reneau continues to stay active with strikes from her back.

Round Three:

Straight into the striking battle they go in the final five minutes. huge head kick rocks Correia. Reneau looks to land more offense as Correia tries to clear the cobwebs. She’s taking shots but fighting back as best she can though.

Correia dives in on a takedown attempt. She’s not able to land it, but she buys herself some time from eating more strikes. Reneau gets free from her grasp and gets on top.

Reneau gets into a dominant position and starts raining down big ground and pound as she tries to put Correia away. Correia does well to drive back up from a bad spot, but Reneau readjusts and is back on top.

Corriea having to work hard just to survive here and she powers up again, only for Reneau to get her back down and take her back with hooks in.

Now Reneau is trying to work for a rear-naked choke in the final minute of the fight. Reneau with some punches to soften up her opponent, but Correia has done well to hang tough and she even lands a few punches behind her at Reneau as the round comes to an end.

Decision:

That big final round for Reneau really changed the complexion of the fight then, and it’s lead to two judges declaring a draw, while one had it in Reneau’s favor. As such the fight goes down as a majority draw (29-27, 28-28 x2).
