Calvin Kattar will be the next opponent for Jeremy Stephens at UFC 249 in Brooklyn, New York on April 18th.
Kattar faced a tough test last time out against one of the featherweight division’s most highly regarded fighters, Zabit Magomedsharipov by back in November and lost by unanimous decision in a ‘Fight Of The Night’ battle.
That ended a two-fight winning streak for Kattar, who had previously TKO’d both Chris Fishgold and Ricardo Lamas, and leaving him with an overall 4-2 run in the UFC, while dropping to No.11 on the 145lb rankings.
As for Stephens, he’s in desperate seek of a victory now after going four fights without a win.
During that stretch he’s been TKO’d by Jose Aldo, lost out by unanimous decision, saw a fight with Yair Rodriguez being waved off after just 15 seconds due to being eye-poked and then lost out on the scorecards in their immediate rematch.
You’d have to go back to February of 2018 to find Stephens last victory, an impressive KO win against Josh Emmett, which was part of a three-fight run of wins that also saw him defeat Doo Ho Choi and Gilbert Melendez, and is the reason that, despite his recent slum in form, he’s still ranked No.8 in the division.
Kattar vs. Stephens joins a UFC 249 card that will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, while Jessica Andrade is also set to rematch Rose Namajunas.
