Sources in Brazil have indicated that a potential UFC light-heavyweight No.1 contender bout between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida is now on course for UFC 157 on February 23rd.
Henderson Vs Machida had originally been pegged for UFC 156 earlier that month on Superbowl weekend, but with ‘Hendo’ requiring extra time to heal from a knee injury and that card already being stacked, it’s not a major deal for the promotion to move it back a few weeks.
Until suffering an injury setback Henderson had been lined up as the division’s next title challenger for Jon Jones after defeating Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua in 2011’s ‘Fight Of The Year’ following a successful run in the Strikeforce promotion.
Meanwhile, Machida has quickly fought his way back into the title mix after an impressive KO win over Ryan Bader earlier in the year, and that had lead to him being lined up as the man to fight the winner of Jones Vs Henderson before that fight was canceled.
UFC 157 is set to take place in Anaheim, California, and while nothing’s been confirmed yet it would seem likely that there’s a good chance this fight will headline the show.
