Dana White Confirms Dos Santos Vs Velasquez II Is Up Next

After watching Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez produce dominant performances at Saturday night’s UFC 146 event it seemed like a no-brainer to give them a re-match next, and Dana White has confirmed that is the plan.

“Yeah, that’s what’s next,” White told Ariel Helwani backstage after the show.

Some may say that Velasquez shouldn’t get back to the title so soon given that Dos Santos KO’d him back in November, but White believes that the former champion deserves a second chance given that he was undefeated before they met.

At that stage he looked unbeatable, and while Dos Santos proved otherwise the fact that he took Antonio Silva out so quickly and such a convincing manner suggests that he’s back to his best again.

It’s also worth remembering that both men carried significant injuries into that fight that ordinarily may have led to it being canceled, but due to the fact it was headlining the first ever ‘UFC On FOX’ show they soldiered on and made the best of it.

That aside, the reality is there isn’t any other obvious challengers right now given that Alistair Overeem is serving a suspension until the end of the year and newly crowned Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament winner Daniel Cormier still has to take one more fight in his current promotion before making the switch to the UFC.

There’s no indication yet of when or where the fight will take place, but at the post-fight presser White did admit that holding it in a soccer stadium in Brazil is something he would consider.
