Dana White acknowledged last night that there’s a chance Tom Aspinall could be stripped of his heavyweight title due to still not having a fight lined up almost a year after the eye injuries he suffered against Ciryl Gane.

Last night a reporter asked White about the situation, comparing it to flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko who vacated her belt due to suffering an injury that could keep her out of action for a year.

“Yeah, we’ll definitely be talking about that,” White said.

“It’s one of those things where Valentina doesn’t want to tie up the division and I’m assuming Tom feels the same way.

“I don’t know personally where he is health-wise with everything. We should clear that up soon.”

Back in June Aspinall had appeared to indicate that he was finally ready to return to action a few months after undergoing eye surgery.

However, more recently his advisor Eddie Hearn indicated that Aspinall still had more tests that he’d have to pass in order to be cleared by the commission, putting into doubt when he will fight again.

With that in mind it seems that the UFC are now considering whether it’s time to keep the division moving by putting the title up for grabs again, so it’ll be interesting to see what develops from that in the coming days and weeks.
