Daniil Donchenko got the better of Punahale Soriano over three rounds tonight at UFC Fight Night 287 to win by unanimous decision.

Round One

Leg kick for Donchenko. Donchenko ducks to work to the body. Jab for Soriano. Straight left from Soriano.

Donchenko comes close with a spinning backfist attempt. Front kick to the body from Donchenko. Donchenko with a couple of solid punches.

Soriano tries for a takedown attempt, but Donchenko fends it off and fires off an elbow. Donchenko aborts on a spinning backfist but then lands a kick instead.

Punch from Donchenko drops Soriano! He goes to the mat looking for a finish, but Soriano is able to get back up.

Donchenko blasts him with another big right hand that stuns him for a brief moment. Soriano looks worried and he should be as Donchenko comes in and gets the right hand through again, rocking him again.

Soriano recovering now though as Donchenko stays patient. Kick to the body for Donchenko.

Soriano lumbering forward, but not committing to his strikes. Leg kick from Donchenko. Good round for Donchenko.

Round Two

Leg kick for Donchenko. Missed spinning backfist into another leg kick.

Two hooks from Donchenko and a low kick in there for good measure. Now a nice knee to the body from in close.

Soriano with a couple of tired looking kicks that miss. Quick exchange in close and Soriano complains of a kick to the groin and gets a time-out.

They restart and Soriano feels out with a kick that almost grazes the chin.

Aggressive exchange of punches in close. Power left hook from Soriano whistles past the target.

Solid calf kick for Donchenko. He punches to the body now. Soriano in on a takedown attempt but Donchenko gets away.

Left hook for Donchenko. Soriano swings for the fences again and misses. Solid left hand from Donchenko.

Donchenko punches to the body then does well to avoid a furry of punches coming his way. However Soriano goes in for a takedown and lands it. Donchenko backs to his feet soon after though as the round draws to a close.

Round Three

Soriano trying to apply pressure early in the final round, but there’s no real urgency or power behind much of his work.

Suddenly Donchenko marches forward behind a long flurry of straight power punches, but Soriano covers up to block much of that.

Failed takedown attempt from Soriano. He tries for another and Donchenko stuffs it initially, but then continues to work and gets Donchenko to his knees.

Soriano suddenly dropping back with a leg lock and has Donchenko in a really awkward spot, but he’s gradually able to get out of that and starts to work back up. Donchenko gets to a knee close to the cage, but Soriano is weighing heavily on him and landing a few light punches.

Donchenko up now but Soriano works for another takedown and hoists him up onto his shoulder. He’s going for a walk and Donchenko doesn’t seem bothered as he’s gesturing to the crowd, before being dumped to the mat. Not enough time left for Soriano to work something from here though so we’re headed to the scorecards.

Decision:

Donchenko clearly got the better of the striking action in the first couple of rounds, while Soriano tried to rally in the third round without much success. Donchenko wins by unanimous decision (30-27 x2, 29-28).
