A flyweight title rematch between current champion Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno has been announced for UFC 263 on June 12th at a destination still to be confirmed.
The rematch makes sense given that the original battle between them in December of last year was something of a thriller that ended with Figueiredo retaining his title by the skin of his teeth via a majority draw verdict, albeit with the champion having been deducted a point in the third round due to an illegal groin strike.
The result means that Figueiredo continues to have just one loss in his entire 22-fight career, which came back in March of 2019 when he lost to Jussier Formiga by unanimous decision.
Since then he’s gone unbeaten in six fights, including defeating Joseph Benavidez twice, Alexandre Pantoja, Tim Elliott and Alex Perez.
As for Moreno, he’s also now unbeaten in his last six Octagon outings, with wins over the likes of Brandon Royval, Jussier Formiga, Kai Kara-France and Makiel Perez in addition to a split draw against Askar Askarov having paid the way for his back-to-back title shots.
Figueiredo vs. Moreno is currently the only fight booked for the UFC 263 event, though at this stage it’s unclear whether it will serve as the main event.
