Derrick Lewis vs. Tai Tuivasa Targeted For UFC 271

A heavyweight clash between Derrick Lewis and Tai Tuivasa is reported to have been targeted for the UFC 271 event in Houston on February 12th.

That’s a relatively quick turnaround for Lewis, who picked up a big KO win over Kyle Daukaus on the UFC’s final card of last year on December 18th.

In the past week Lewis had suggested that he’d be interested in fighting former champion Stipe Miocic next, but it seems that the UFC had other plans and have instead paired him up with another fighter known for his finishing ability in the Octagon.

Tuivasa is also not far removed from his last fight, having KO’d Augusto Sakai on December 11th, extending his current winning streak to four fights.

The Aussie’s hard-hitting style has also seen him KO Greg Hardy and Stefan Struve along with TKO’ing Harry Hunsucker for good measure during his current run, but he’s still looking for the big-name win that would propel him into the division’s top 10 from his current spot at No.11, eight places beneath ‘The Black Beast’.

Lewis vs. Tuivasa would join a UFC 271 card that is set to be headlined by a middleweight title rematch between Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker.
