Fabricio Werdum UFC 147 Post-Fight Interview

Outside of the UFC 147 main event Fabricio Werdum was the biggest name on last night’s card in Brazil and his performance didn’t disappoint as he took out Mike Russow in short order to continue his ascent up the heavyweight ladder.

Afterwards in an interview with Fuel TV’s Karyn Bryant he admitted that he was relieved to have performed well in front of his home fans.

“I trained a lot for this fight, three months at ‘Kings MMA’ and I’m very happy because it’s a big difference fighting in Brazil. I haven’t fought in Brazil in nine years – my last fight here was in 2003. Just to hear the guys sing my nickname makes me happy.”

It also motivated him to take the fight to Russow, and he says that when he heard the fans chant his name he looked at his opponent and though, “I kill you.”

Thankfuly he didn’t go quite that far, but he did earn a TKO victory and he believes that not places him in a good position to start thinking about a title shot.

“For sure I’m close now. If the organization says I’m ready for the fight then I’m ready, but maybe one more fight on the Dos Santos Vs Velasquez card. After I win, Dos Santos wins [then] I can fight with him, Maybe here in Brazil for The Ultimate Fighter’s second [series].”
