GSP Would Return To UFC For Megafight Claims Firas Zahabi

On the latest episode of Joe Rogan’s MMA Show podcast, Georges St-Pierre’s long-time coach Firas Zahabi revealed his belief that the Canadian superstar would still return to the Octagon if he was offered a ‘megafight.’

“It has to be, in my opinion – I don’t want to talk for him – but I think the thing that’s going to motivate him is a megafight,” Zabahi told Rogan. “He doesn’t want to be champion again and fight every three-four months. That’s done. It’s not gonna happen no more. But one megafight. Invite him back for a megafight and see if you could entice him because he’s a competitor. He’s still training, he’s still ripped, shredded, fighting. He can do five rounds. Maybe he can’t do five rounds right away but he [only] needs a few weeks and then he’s doing five rounds. He’s close to being there. He can get in fight shape. He’s just a monster.”

It’s up for debate as to what would classify as a ‘megafight’ other than Conor McGregor, but realistically from what St-Pierre himself has hinted at over the past year or two, the other fighter he’d really like to lock horns with is Khabib Nurmagomedov, and it would certainly be fascinating to see those two all-time great lock horns in the Octagon.

Khabib is known to be interested in that fight too, but he’s just signed up to fight Tony Ferguson in April, so if it was to happen it probably wouldn’t be until at least the second half of 2020, and it still remains to be seen if that’s really what the UFC would want to do given that it seems like GSP would disappear back out of the spotlight again afterwards even if he did break Nurmagomedov’s unbeaten record.
