UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones strengthened his ‘Greatest Of All-Time’ status tonight by dominating Stipe Miocic for the best part of three rounds at UFC 309, before putting the icing on the cake by delivering a stunning spinning back kick to the body for a TKO finish.
Round One:
It’s finally here, the heavyweight title showdown is underway in New York City.
Jones takes the center of the Octagon to start. He lands a straight left, but Miocic connects on the counter.
Inside leg kick for Miocic. Hard inside leg kick from Jones now. Jones avoids a punch and lands a body kick. Miocic tries to fire off a combo but Jones just gets away in time.
Great trip takedown from Jones. He lands a big elbow. In half-guard He lands again. More heavy elbows connect. Half the round remaining.
Hammerfist from Miocic. Jones posturing and lands another elbow. Side control for Jones. Miocic tries to get up, but can’t for now. Jones with a series of thunderous elbows, but Miocic survives.
Big elbow yet again lands for Jones. Two more land. Miocic gets Jones back into his guard. Jones still gets an elbow through from there. Jones postures up and then passes to side control. Two more elbows and then a few more for good measure, finally opening up a cut on Miocic’s right cheek.
Round Two:
Jab for Miocic. Quick low kick from Miocic. Another jab from him. Jab from Jones. Uppercut attempt from Miocic.
Solid body kick for Jones. Body punch for Miocic. Another punch to the midsection for Miocic and then tries to go upstairs.
Jones avoids a punch and then lands a counter. Front kick to the body from Jones seems to buckle Miocic for a moment.
Low kick for Miocic. Now a body punch. Jones with a brief thai clinch and lands a knee to the body.
Jab from Jones. Nice right hand for Miocic. Tentative body kick from him. Head kick attempt from Jones is blocked.
Jab for Jones. Now an inside leg kick. A kick comes off the shoulder. Now a kick to the body.
Miocic charges forward trying to land strikes, but Jones backs away comfortably. Spinning back kick to the body for Jones. He lands a jab.
Round Three:
Jab for Jones. And again. Miocic comes forward firing off the right hand and did get through with it a couple of times.
Jab again for Jones. Miocic hustles into the clinch to land an uppercut. Now a right hand for him. Body kick for Jones. Now an inside leg kick.
Jones whips an elbow as Miocic comes into range. Jab for Jones. Now a right hand hurts Miocic and puts him into reverse gear.
Jones clinches up against the cage but they soon separate. Low kick for Jones. Back to the jab. Miocic comes forward but eats a body kick.
Right hand for MIocic. He goes for a flurry, but Jones ducks under it. Left hand for Jones. Jab lands again.
Jones jab landing crisply. Now a couple of punches for Miocic. Side kick to the body from Jones. Nice right hand for Miocic.
Now a big left hand for Jones. Punch lands for Miocic. Now a solid connection for him but Jones takes it well.
Jones with a spinning back kick to the body folds Miocic to his knees! Miocic follows him to the mat with punches and that’s it, the ref steps in and Jones gets an impressive highlight-reel TKO victory at 4.29mins of the third round to add to his already stellar resume.
