Jon Jones Vs Dan Henderson Targeted For September 1st Event

At today’s UFC 146 press conference Dana White revealed that a light-heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Dan Henderson is expected to take place on September 1st.

As things stand there hasn’t been an event officially announced for that date yet, but it looks like that may be the landing spot for UFC 151.

Henderson has been patiently waiting for his chance to fight for the belt since defeating Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua in a ‘Fight Of The Year’ performance in November last year after returning to the promotion following a successful stint in Strikeforce where he had become their light-heavyweight champion.

He’ll now hope to do the same in the UFC, but he’ll have his work cut out for him with Jones currently appearing to be in unstoppable form, also defeating ‘Shogun’ to claim the 205lb belt and then successfully defending it against three other former champions in ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Lyoto Machida and most recently Rashad Evans.

At first there were rumors that Jones Vs Henderson may take place at UFC 149 in July, but Jones manager later put that too bed, indicating that the 24 year-old was looking for a little extra time off after a hectic fight schedule over the past 18 months.
