Jon Jones’ next light-heavyweight title defense will come against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 on February 8th in Houston, Texas.
It had been known for some time that this match-up had been in the works as Jones himself had publicly stated that he had chosen Reyes over one of the division’s other top contenders Corey Anderson, stating that he was the Brazilian was the more dangerous opponent after watching footage of the two fighters.
In the past year Jones has racked up three wins, starting with winning the vacant 205lb title with a third round TKO stoppage against Alexander Gustafsson.
He then went on to win a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Smith, despite being deducted two points for an illegal knee, and then narrowly claimed a split decision victory over Thiago Santos in July.
As for Reyes, he has risen to No.4 in the 205lb rankings after a compiling a perfect 12-0 career record.
That includes 6 wins in a row inside the Octagon to date, with his most notable wins coming in his last three fights with decision victories over both Ovince Saint Preux and Volkan Oezdemir followed by a first round KO of Chris Weidman back in October.
Jones vs. Reyes will headline a UFC 247 card that will also feature a women’s flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Katyln Chookagian.
