Jon Jones next light-heavyweight title defense will come against Thiago Santos at UFC 239 on July 6th during International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
Jones has been keeping busy since finally returning to action in late 2018, having since earned a TKO victory over Alexander Gustafsson in their rematch this past December and then following that up with a decision victory over Anthony Smith in March.
Jones’ record now stands at a formidable 24-1 (+1nc) and with few notable challengers left at 205lbs there has been talk that he could soon be headed to heavyweight as he looks to continue to build a long lasting legacy in the sport.
Before that he’ll at least have to get the better of the hard-hitting Santos though, who stepped up to light-heavyweight from middleweight in September of last year and promptly TKO’d Eryk Anders, before then knocking out Jimi Manuwa in December and TKO’ing Jan Blachowicz in February.
Santos does have a knockout loss on his recent resume however, having been KO’d by David Branch in April of last year, while his overall record stands at 21-6.
Jones Vs Santos is one of two major new fights that have been announced for UFC 239, with Amanda Nunes also set to return to fight Holly Holm on what’s likely to be one of the most star-studded line-ups of the year.
