UFC flyweight champion Joshua Van has called out Manel Kape as he looks to line up his next title defense.
“Yo fat f***,” Van wrote on Kape on social media. “Start cutting now cuz u better make weight! We don’t want another weight excuse. Let’s give the people what they want!”
Van’s comments come after Kape had stated his belief that the current champ was a perfect stylistic match-up for him after seeing his unanimous decision victory over former kingpin Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 331.
“The perfect style for me to paint a masterpiece,” Kape had written. “You’re all going to be surprised by how easy I make this fight look.”
The 32-year-old Kape is the obvious choice for a title shot next as he’s already the No.1 contender at flyweight after going on a four-fight winning streak over the past couple of years.
And Kape hasn’t just been picking up victories, he’s been beating opponents decisively, with all four of his wins over Bruno Gustavo da Silva, Asu Almabayev, Brandon Royval and Kyoji Horiguchi having come via strikes.
As for the 24-year-old champion, Van is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak that includes two successful title defenses so far.
