Kelvin Gastelum put a hurting on Vitor Belfort tonight at UFC Fight Night 106 flooring him hard twice in the opening round to earn an impressive TKO victory.
Round One:
The main event of the evening is underway in Brazil.
Gastelum takes the center of the Octagon to start. Body kick for Belfort. Both men launch a kick at the same time. Jab for Gastelum, but Belfort lands a big blow in return and then tries to flurry, but doesn’t connect.
A couple of stirkes miss for Gastelum. Belfort does land a hard punch though. Early warnings for Gastelum here.
Belfort tries for a flying knee that misses. Gastelum with a couple of punches that land. Now a big connection for him and that’ll get Belfort’s respect.
Gastelum loads up on a strike and misses. Belfort with a spinning kick that partially lands and he looks to follow up close to teh cage.
Gastelum resets and goes on the attack, landing a right hook then floors Belfort with a powerful straight left. Gastelum follows him to the mat looking for a finish, but Belfort is able to survive the attack and work his way back to the feet.
Belfort bleeding from the face, but immediately goes on the attack, swinging for the fences, so Gastelum still has to be careful.
Gastelum steps into a fast one-two and then it’s the left hand again that drops ‘The Phenom’ for a second time and referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy has seen enough, stepping in to save the veteran from further punishment.
Huge highlight reel win for Gastelum then as he proves he’s the real deal at middleweight, while that’s a tough loss for Belfort and at 39-years-old there’s sure to be some calls for him to retire now.
