It’s finally official, the UFC’s top two lightweight contenders, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will go to war in an interim title bout at UFC 209 in Las Vegas on March 4th.
Due to their dominant runs in the division and the fact that the current champion Conor McGregor is on hiatus currently being on hiatus, this is the fight that everybody has been wanting to see at 155lbs.
Both fighters records are extremely impressive, with the 28 year-old Nurmagomedov in particular bringing a flawless 24-0 record to the Octagon that includes no less than 8 victories from his time in the UFC.
Along the way the Russian star has steamrollered over the top of respected fighters like Rafael dos Anjos, Gleison Tibau, Thiago Tavares, Abel Trujillo, Pat Healy and most recently Michael Johnson.
Meanwhile, Ferguson is 22-3 in his career overall, but just edges out Nurmagomedov in terms of his current UFC winning streak, racking up nine victories in a row over the past three years.
Ferguson as a few wins in common with his next opponent, having also defeated Dos Anjos, Tibau and Trujillo, but he’s also added a few other notable names like Josh Thomson and Edson Barboza to his list during an eye-catching climb to reach the No.2 contender spot in the division.
Nurmagomedov Vs Ferguson joins a card that is set to be headlined by a welterweight title rematch between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson, while a heavyweight encounter between Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt is also scheduled to go down on the main card.
