Khabib Nurmagomedov’ Eagle FC promotion makes it’s U.S. debut this coming Friday night and to mark the occasion they’ve released a flashy new Hollywood-movie style promo to hype up the main event clash between Russian heavyweight veteran Sergei Kharitonov and Dutch kickboxing ace Tyron Spong.
The video sees Kharitonov and Spong racing to the destination of their upcoming fight, commandeering a sports car and speedboat respectively along the way.
It’s all very slickly done and it’s good to see these veteran stars getting some shine, though on the other hand the fact that the video only has just over 6,000 views on YouTube after being released yesterday gives some indication of the steep upward climb that Khabib and his organization has to become recognized in a land where the UFC currently dominates the landscape.
“He’s going to find out what it’s like to be on the other side,” Dana White said last month when asked what he thought about Khabib’s push into the U.S. market with his own promotion. “It’s not as fun as it seems. He’s going to learn. If he doesn’t know, he’s going to know.
“If he calls me and wants advice, I would absolutely give him advice. But I think he’s going to learn the hard way.”
Still, those who do pay attention to the show will also be treated to the comeback from retirement of former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans, who takes on Gabriel Checco in the co-main event.
