Leon Edwards won’t be fighting Jorge Masvidal at UFC 269 next month after his opponent pulled out due to an undisclosed injury, but it seems that there’s no shortage of fighters who are eager to step in on short notice against him.
“Let’s go bro, we should do it Leon Edwards,” rising welterweight star Khamzat Chimaev wrote after hearing the news.
He was far from the only one who liked the idea of going up against the 10-fight undefeated, No.3 ranked welterweight though, with both former title challenger Gilbert Burns and Belal Muhammad having thrown their hat in the ring.
“What’s up @Leon_edwardsmma, you already on training camp! Let me know #UFC269,” Burns wrote.
“Put bully in I don’t even need to make a million,” Belal Muhammad stated.
However, that’s not all as it turns out Nick Diaz is also eager to face him, perhaps eager to avenge his brother Nate’s unanimous decision loss to him earlier this year.
“Put me in,” Diaz wrote in the comments of ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto’s post about Masvidal’s withdrawal.
Edwards has already hinted that he’s switched his attention to eyeing a title fight with Kamaru Usman instead, but it remains to be seen whether the UFC will agree to that idea, or whether they may still want him to add one more big name win to his resume before he finally gets the fight for the belt.
