The unlikely UFC 234 co-main event saw Lando Vannata securing a submission victory over Marcos Rosa Mariano thanks to a kimura.
Round One:
Leg kicks exchanged to start. Vannata just missing on the right hand. Mariano with a kick. Now they exchange leg kicks again.
Vannata with a body lock and lands a nice takedown. Vannata in half-guard. He’s taking his time here as Mariano gets him back to his full guard.
A couple of punches for Vannata. A few more land. Vannata postures over him, lands a punch then back to his knees. He’s chipping away with shots and then lands a big elbow. Series of punches land and Mariano isn’t doing a whole lot to detter this at this stage.
Vannata goes to north south position now and quickly goes for a kimura submission and torques hard on it until the tap comes with only 5 seconds of the first round remaining.
