Mackenzie Dern Submits Nina Nunes With 1st Round Armbar At UFC On ABC 2

Mackenzie Dern showed off her deadly submission skills at UFC On ABC 2 as she forced Nina Nunes to tap out late in the first round due to an armbar.

Round One:

For those not aware, ahead of this fight Nina Ansaroff changed her last name to that of her wife, UFC double-champ Amanda Nunes.

Dern wades forward with heavy punches, but with not much thought for defense. Now she moves into the clinch and presses Nunes up against the cage.

Nunes gets free. She lands a couple of hooks. Hard leg kick for Dern and then a right hand, followed by a takedown attempt. Dern having to work hard to get this and then does get it with a nice trip.

Dern in Nunes full guard. Nunes looking to just lock her down and stall the action, but she gets out from her grip and tries to progress.

Dern patiently manages to get to half-guard. Dern now slickly works to side control and then full mount. Dangerous times for Nunes against the BJJ ace.

Dern with some heavy ground and pound punches and now trying to set up an armbar attempt. Still over a minute remaining as Nunes tries to hang on for dear life. Dern dropping back, but Nunes continuing to defend well.

Real battle for that arm here in the final 30 seconds and finally Dern gets it free and extends the armbar, forcing a swift tapout from Nunes at 4.48mins of the first round.

Impressive stuff from Dern, who is becoming more confident in her striking ability, but still remains at her most dangerous on the mat, which makes her a dangerous opponent for anyone in the division.
