Max Holloway Vs Frankie Edgar To Headline UFC 218

A featherweight title fight between current champion Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar will headline UFC 218 in Detroit on December 2nd.

This will be Holloway’s first title defense after seizing the belt from Jose Aldo at UFC 212 back in June by way of a third round TKO stoppage.

That extended Holloway’s current winning streak in the Octagon to a hugely impressive 11 fights, including victories over the likes of Anthony Pettis, Ricardo Lamas, Jeremy Stephens, Charles Oliveira and Cub Swanson.

Despite navigating past a who’s who of the division, he’s never crossed paths with the current No.2 ranked contender Edgar until now, which is surprising in hindsight as it’s a mouthwatering prospect.

Edgar is 10-years older than Holloway at 35, but he’s shown little sign of slowing down at this stage in his career, having won seven of his last eight fights.

His solitary loss came via decision in a title fight against Aldo at UFC 200 in July of last year, and he’s since returned to winning ways with victories over Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez to seal another shot at the belt.

Holloway Vs Edgar tops a UFC 218 fight card that’s also set to include major heavyweight action as Alistair Overeem faces rising star Francis Ngannou, while Eddie Alvarez takes on Justin Gaethje and Henry Cejudo goes up against Sergio Pettis.
