Fight Report

Gervonta Davis defeats Francisco Fonseca by KO at 0.39mins of Rd8

Strange performance from Davis here. He looked dangerous in the first couple of rounds as he unloaded with powerful punches and asserted his dominance, but then he began showboating and seemed to get distracted, allowing Fonseca to edge his way back into the fight.

It wasn’t until the eighth round that Davis came out with more purpose and that almost immediately paid dividends for him as he landed a left hook, then one to the body and followed up soon afterwards with a hook upstairs that seemed to hit the back of Fonseca’s head, knocking him down.

Fonseca stayed on the canvas clutching the back of his head during the ten count, resulting in a KO victory for Davis.

Badou Jack defeats Nathan Cleverly by TKO at 2.47mins of Rd5

Impressive performance from Jack here, bossing the fight from the early stages with extremely crisp, clean, well placed shots to the head and body.

Cleverley did his best to hang on in there in the early rounds, but by the fourth he was visibly wilting under Jack’s sustained offense, eating a big left hook and then having to go into a defensive shell against the ropes to make it out of the round.

It was more of the same in the fifth as Jack went in pursuit of a finish, and after again backing Cleverley up against the ropes a series of hook finally convinced the referee to put the Brit out of his misery.  Great work from jack there.

Andrew Tabiti defeats Steve Cunningham by unanimous decision (97-93 x2, 100-90)

Tabiti cruises to a decision victory over the aging Cunningham without ever really having to hit top gear, fighting methodically rather than going all out for a finish.

Fox Sports Card:

Yordenis Ugas defeats Thomas Dulorme by unanimous decision (94-91, 93-92 x2)

Dulorme had a disasterous start against the late replacement Ugas, being dropped twice in the second round and looking in real danger of being finished.

However, he showed tremendous grit and determination to work his way back into the fight, culminating in him getting revenge with a knockdown of Ugas in the seventh round.

Dulorme continued to be in the ascendency in the rounds that followed as Ugas wilted, but the referee got a little carried away by deducting two points due to what he deemed to be low blows that really hurt his chances of successfully staging a comeback, with Ugas going on to win on points.

Juan Heraldez defeats Jose Miguel Borrego by unanimous decision (96-93, 97-92 x2)

Close fight between two previously undefeated up-and-comers here, with Heraldez outboxing his opponent in the first half of the contest, but Borrego then going on to hurt him at the end of the sixth and floor him a few rounds later.

However, Borrego wasn’t able to put Heraldez away and had to settle for going to the scorecards, where Heraldez’s more consistent work over the entirety of the fight helping seal a unanimous decision victory.
