Michael Bisping Says He’d Refuse To Fight Yoel Romero

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has claimed that if Yoel Romero was to win his fight with Chris Weidman at UFC 205 and becomes the next title contender, that he’d refuse to fight him.

“If Yoel beats Chris, I honestly don’t think I’ll fight Yoel, because he tested positive for steroids,” Bisping stated on SuriusXM Rush yesterday. “I read an article recently that said that it takes years for the advantages of taking steroids to get out of your system. Just because you don’t test positive anymore doesn’t mean you’ll lose all the extra muscle and things like that that you were able to achieve. So I think he needs longer, I really do. I don’t see why he should be rewarded.”

Romero tested positive for the growth hormone Ibutamoren back in January after an out-of-competition drug test, but the Cuban fighter has since been able to prove that he had taken the illegal substance unintentionally due to a tainted supplement.

As such, Romero was able to get his suspension reduced from two years to just six months, and despite what the champion has said, he still has his sights firmly set on the title.

“All hail the queen @bisping you only mention my name when you don’t want to fight. I will see you soon #ynuevo,” Romero responded after in response to Bisping’s latest declaration.

Meanwhile, Bisping has indicated that he’d be more than happy to go up against Romero’s opponent Chris Weidman if he emerges victorious in New York City next weekend.

“If Weidman wins, that’s the fight I want. Me and Weidman, for a little while now, I’d say probably the last year, have gone back and forth, back and forth, talking sh*t, and yeah, it’s a fight that interests me, 100 percent.”
