Nathaniel Wood was in fine form tonight at UFC Fight Night 147 in London as he earned himself a second round submission victory over Jose Alberto Quinonez.
Round One:
Quinonez goes for a leg kick, but slips to the mat in the process, then gets back up. Leg kick for him. He tries for a leg kick again and Wood nails him with a punch.
Kick upstairs from Quinonez that Wood gets underneath and catches, but it’s Quinonez ends up getting the clinch against the cage as he works for a takedown.
Quinonez gets him to his knees, but Wood gets back to his feet, only to be taken down properly at the second attempt. Quinonez on top looking to work, but Wood transitions on top. Not for long though as Quinonez then is able to work back to his feet.
Wood just missing with a straight right. He lands a jab. leg kick for Quinonez. leg kick apiece. Another kick for Quinonez.
Left hook for Wood, but it’s blocked. He finds a home for a left that snaps Quinonez head back though.
Wood lands with another punch and Quinonez goes down. Wood looking for a d’arce choke here. Wood readjusts on the choke, but then Quinonez is able to scramble and escape well back to his feet.
Fast pace here in the opening round. Right hand lands nicely for Wood. leg kick for Quinonez. Clinch from Wood and lands a takedown to end the round on top.
Round Two:
Body kick for Wood. Jab lands for Quinonez. Wood fires back with a punch of his own that backs Quinonez up. Quinonez into the clinch now and works him over to the cage.
Quinonez working for the takedown, but Wood stays upright for now with good defense. Knee for Wood and then they break free with an elbow from Quinonez.
Punch for Wood. Another straight right lands. Body kick for Quinonez and a punch behind it. Leg kick for Quinonez. Quinonez into the clinch, but doesn’t get the takedown he was looking for there.
Lovely trip takedown from Wood catches Quinonez off-guard. He tries to walk towards the cage on all-fours, but that leaves him vulnerable to the submission and Wood pounces on a rear-naked choke. It’s in tight immediately and soon after Quinonez taps out with 2.46mins of the second round gone.
