Roosevelt Roberts Submits Brok Weaver By Rear-Naked Choke at UFC On ESPN 9

Roosevelt Roberts looked sharp on his feet tonight at UFC On ESPN 9 against Brok Weaver, but it would eventually be a rear-naked choke submission on the mat that would lead him to victory.

Round One:

Roberts with an inside leg kick to start. Weaver closing the distance as Roberts throws a kick to the body. Weaver punches his way into the clinch, but Roberts reverses against the cage. They separate soon after though.

Roberts lands a punch, then Weaver again wades into the clinch with punches. Pressed up against the cage they are talking to each other and Roberts reverses Weaver again.

They separate. Roberts with an uppercut. Now a right hand. Body punch for Roberts as he picks his punches. He lands another punch to the head and Weaver unloads a couple of punches too.

Once again Weaver leads with a punch to get into the clinch against the cage. Roberts able to shrug him off though. Glancing right hand from Roberts and then a leg kick.

Roberts lands with the one-two. Now a kick. Right hand for Roberts and then lands it again. Weaver hurls punches as he charges back into the cage clinch. Weaver working hard for a takedown this time, but can’t do it and only lands a couple of knees before Roberts breaks away.

Leg kick for Roberts. Right hand for him. Again Weaver is into the clinch. Roberts lands a knee to the body. Roberts gets away but then goes straight back at Weaver looking for a takedown and isn’t able to do so.

Weaver looking to get to the clinch again, but as he ducks down Roberts goes for a standing guillotine. This is a Roberts speciality, but Weaver drops down to the mat to escape and manages to do so, leaving Roberts to stay on top until the round ends.

Round Two:

Roberts lands a hard punch. Now he’s attempting a takedown, but Weaver defends it and fires back with strikes. Now Weaver goes back to the cage clinch. Roberts out of it, but again Weaver punches his way into it again. However, Roberts reverses the clinch position this time. Lets see if he has any more success with it.

Roberts thinks about a takedown and then gives up on it and goes back to striking range. However, he then goes back into it and lands a right hand then this time is able to land the takedown.

Roberts settles into half-guard and drops a couple of elbows. Roberts tries for a d’arce choke and then instead opts to move to full mount. Weaver turns to his front and Roberts sinks in a rear-naked choke. It looks tight, but Weaver escapes.

Roberts stays on him though and soon afterwards is again able to lock up the rear-naked choke and this time it’s in too tight for Weaver to get out of and he’s forced to tap out at 3.26mins of the second round.
