No.5 ranked welterweight contender Sean Brady has reportedly pulled out of his UFC Fight Night 292 main event fight with Gabriel Bonfim at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas next weekend.
There’s no word at this stage as to why the 33-year-old Brady has withdrawn from the match-up, but it now leaves the UFC scrambling to either find a new opponent for Bonfim, or come up with a new main event just nine days out from the show.
If they go with the former option then any potential fighter asked to step up on short notice will have a big fight on their hands as the 29-year-old Bonfim is currently in a fine run of form in the UFC’s welterweight division that’s seen him win five fights in a row.
That includes wins over former welterweight champ Belal Muhammad, Stephen Thompson and Randy Brown, taking Bonfi to No.6 on the Meta rankings, while extending his impressive career record to 20-1.
Meanwhile, if they decide to go with a new main event instead then one option they may consider is just promoting the current co-main event fight between former women’s strawweight title challengers Tatiana Suarez and Virna Jandiroba to headlining status.
