Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson’s next fight will come against Vicente Luque at UFC 244 in New York City on November 2nd.
Thompson is currently in the midst of an unusually disappointing spell by his standards that’s seen him lose three of his last four fights.
Worse still, Thompson suffered a shock KO loss to Anthony Pettis last time out back in March. That was the first time ‘Wonderboy’ had ever been knocked out in his professional career and so it’ll be interesting to see how the striker rebounds from that.
It is worth noting however that Thompson’s only victory during this spell was a decision victory against Jorge Masvidal, who has since gone on to be one of the division’s hottest commodities, and will in fact headline this show.
Now he’ll fight an in-form challenger in Luque who is currently on an impressive six-fight winning streak in the division.
Four of those victories have come via strikes and one by submission, but it’s a split decision victory over Mike Perry last time out that’s his most notable win.
Thompson vs. Luque joins a UFC 242 card that’s set to be fronted by another welterweight encounter between Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, while Darren Till’s middleweight debut against Kelvin Gastelum will serve as the co-main event at Madison Square Garden.
